I've given up the placement and emailed my tutor to say I want to withdraw from the course. It occured to me that I don't have to be a teacher if I don't want to and I don't want to. Meanwhile temping will keep wolves from doors and I can think about what I want to do next. I think it is because my temping has been going well that I realised I don't have to get this qualification to prove anything to anybody. Also I realised that my dislike of the idea of messing people about wasn't a good enough reason to carry on and as it turned out the person who got me the placement thought it perfectly reasonable for me to decide I didn't want to do it.
I am thinking about going into university administration but I will take my time before committing myself to anything else. I feel a bit relieved and a bit as though I have plunged into an abyss of uncertainty but choice can't be a bad thing.
Went with Gwil to the Cornerhouse to see Penda's Fen which was good - the writer was there to discuss the film afterwards.
If anybody has worked in university administration and has any opinions about whether it is interesting or boring or any other advice/insights I would be glad to know what they think.

I am sorry that it did not work out, but as you say, there seems little point putting yourself through a placement that you don't like in order to be qualified to do something that you don't want to do...

Inded - I think I picked up enough on the course to know that lack of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation does not augur well for success...

:o( It is hard to know how something will turn out until one embarks upon that road I guess. And there are just so many far-distant receding roads to look down and wonder about...

Still, admin might be okay for a while, but wouldn't you hanker for being involved in the research aspects of a university rather than the admin ones?
